Tough Times for Fondo Paez

Fondo Paez, our co-op partners in Colombia, are an indigenous group that produce some of the best coffee in Colombia. On June 11, their treasurer was attacked when he walked out of the bank and they lost the entire amount to be used to collect this year's coffee from growers. The total amount was 70,000,000 pesos which is about $37,000. This is simply devestating for the farmers and their families and represents a huge part of their expected income. They have no insurance for transferring the cash from bank to office and this is a total loss for them. Yuri, their treasurer, explained that this is one of the worst time in the group's history.

Bolivia Trip Report
Posted by mikemoon at about 2pm on Tuesday July 27, 2010In May I traveled to Bolivia with Brad Brandhorst of Larry's Beans in Raleigh North Carolina and Florent Gout and ShiYi Fu from Cooperative Coffees. We visited three grower cooperatives that Cooperative Coffees purchases coffee from, AIPEP, PASYBOL and APROCAFE. The trip began in La Paz, the highest capitol city in the world where we were ably and awesomely hosted by FECAFEB (Federacion de Cafecultores Exportadores de Bolivia). We were assisted in our travels also by Lisa and Arianne.
The US Bike Polo Championships in Madison this Weekend
Posted by matt at about 1pm on Thursday July 15, 2010This weekend Madison will host the US Hardcourt Bike Polo Championships at the MATC Truax campus tennis courts. The weekend will feature many skinny-jeaned juggernauts of bike polo including our comrades-- Heavy Kev and the Hunter Boys. The team JC Jackalberry Crush will be in it to win it, so please witness.
The action starts Friday morning at 10am with matches all day. On Saturday the jousting begins at 10am and will continue Sunday it will begin at 11am.
Please come out and see this spectacle-- it will do your heart good. And have you some JC espresso or iced coffee over in the coffee cart.
